POSITION SUMMARY:<\/p>\n

\u00a0Responsible for supervising overall operation of the pharmacy department in absence of Pharmacy Director. Requires extensive contact with the other departments in the hospital (nursing, dietary, respiratory, med staff). Also, performs clinical and professional duties as required by regulatory agencies; optimizes patient outcomes.\u00a0 Directs, oversees, and allocates activities of employees engaged in compounding, mixing, packaging, labelling and dispensing prescribed medications, drugs and other pharmaceuticals for patient care, according to professional standards and State and Federal legal requirement.\u00a0 Directs and provides consultative advice to nursing and medical staffs.\u00a0 Answers questions and provides information on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and procurement of pharmaceuticals.\u00a0 Follows established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste.\u00a0 Recommends and informs medical personnel of drug applications and characteristics.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Maintains library of references and copies of regulations with all related support documentation to include ( not all inclusive) invoices, orders, inventories, computer generated records
\nManages a well run department with supervision of a trained and dependable staff
\nPromotes the safe and effective use of medications
\nEstablishes relevant training e.g. IV
\nMaintains proper distribution throughout the facility
\nProvides that a pharmacist dispenses and is available after hours
\nAttends hospital meetings in the absence of the Pharmacy Director and subscribes to policies
\nAttends meetings that promote benchmarking and best practices.
\nProvides up to date pharmaceutical care with proper dosing of low volume\/ high risk products
\nActs in a knowledgeable and timely manner for new or unusual situations
\nContinually keeps abreast of all regulatory standards to maintain compliance with JCAHO\/CMS in ongoing perpetration for survey readiness.
\nModels the way with Customer Service program initiatives through active participation evidenced by staff representation on committees and events.<\/p>\n
