About the PG&E Company :

PG&E Corporation, commonly associated with the United States, does not have a direct equivalent in the United Kingdom. However, the UK’s energy sector features several major players with similar roles in electricity and gas provision and infrastructure management.

In the UK, energy companies are primarily divided into two types: suppliers and distribution network operators (DNOs). The “Big Six” energy suppliers include British Gas, EDF Energy, E.ON UK, Npower, ScottishPower, and SSE (now part of OVO Energy). These companies supply gas and electricity to residential and business customers.

Distribution Network Operators are responsible for the infrastructure that delivers electricity to homes and businesses. The UK is divided into regions, each served by a different DNO. Major DNOs include:

UK Power Networks – Serves London, the South East, and the East of England.
Western Power Distribution – Covers the Midlands, South West, and South Wales.
Northern Powergrid – Operates in the North East and Yorkshire.
Electricity North West – Serves the North West of England.
SP Energy Networks – Covers Central and Southern Scotland, Merseyside, Cheshire, and North Wales.
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) – Operates in Northern Scotland and Central Southern England.

These DNOs manage the electricity distribution networks, ensuring the infrastructure is maintained, upgraded, and expanded as needed. The regulatory framework for the UK energy market is overseen by Ofgem (the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets), which ensures that companies operate fairly and efficiently, maintaining the balance between consumer interests, environmental goals, and the needs of the energy sector
