Job Description:

The Senior Software Engineer at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company will write and modify software applications. Write automated unit, functional, integration, and regression tests individually and in collaboration with test engineers. Participate in daily scrum meetings, pull feature work tickets in Jira, and complete development work within sprint. Use java libraries (JDBI) to read and write to relational databases including db2, Sybase, and MySQL.

Review code changes of peers and provide feedback. Analyze existing legacy Java source code and provide design input for new features. Perform DevOps activities for compensation applications. Author and update Maven build files, Dockerfiles, and Kubernetes manifests for deployment of artifacts to non-production and production environments.

Write and modify GitLabCI pipelines using bash scripts to initiate build, test, scanning, and deployment. Work with cloud and associated technologies including AWS, Azure, and containerization. Minimum Requirements:

Master’s degree in information systems, computer science, or a related field plus 2 years (or a Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years) of experience as a software engineer or in a related occupation.

Experience must include 2 years with each of the following:

(1) Java, JavaScript, C++, and Python;

(2) Cloud and associated technologies including AWS, Azure, and containerization;

(3) Linux or UNIX environment;

(4) designing and implementing SQL databases; and

(5) developing API services using service-oriented architecture, REST, and Microservices.
