The opportunity:
Managing a team, you will be responsible for overseeing Wholesale’s Finance Business Partnering function across the breadth of Wholesale’s Insurance & Service Operations. International Finance comprises of financial, regulatory, and business reporting of Markel International team and its subsidiaries. It is part of Markel Group’s Global Finance Department. Responsible for leading all aspects of Wholesale’s Finance Business Partnering function across the breadth of Wholesale’s Insurance & Service Operations.

What you’ll be doing:
Customer Relationship Ownership: Ensuring high-quality and timely finance support by managing the customer relationship between Finance and senior business stakeholders within Wholesale.
Management Information Provision: Delivering high-quality and timely Management Information that summarizes business performance against plan, prior year, and strategic priorities. This includes metrics related to Gross Written Premium (GWP), productivity, loss and expense ratios, and overall business profitability.
Timely Financial Performance Responses: Addressing all queries related to financial performance promptly from business stakeholders.
Business Planning Support: Ensuring timely receipt of vital inputs from business divisions to support Wholesale’s business planning cycles. Facilitating effective “play-back” to business partners to ensure ownership of final business plans.
Strategic Decision Support: Collaborating with senior business collaborators to advise strategic decision-making. This involves producing financial elements for written business plans, including potential acquisitions and the launch of new business lines or markets.
Finance Education Sessions: Providing vital finance education sessions to senior business stakeholders, improving their understanding of how business results are generated at Markel.
Alignment with Reporting Standards: Maintaining close liaison with the Head of Financial and Regulatory reporting to ensure that management results communicated to the business align with US GAAP reported numbers.
Team Leadership: Leading and developing a team of two individuals responsible for supporting the Wholesale business in financial reporting, planning, and strategy. Close liaison with Finance professionals who report directly within business divisions. This should ensure consistency of information and the elimination of duplication of effort.

Qualified or qualified by experienced accountant.
Detailed knowledge and experience of US GAAP.
Experienced in managing a team of Finance professionals responsible for the business reporting of a Global business.
Good knowledge of Markel International’s current business across as well as a detailed appreciation of Markel’s Global strategic priorities.
